An integrated, progressive assessment journey across the Reception year
The EExREC Assessment Suite brings together three carefully designed tools: EExREC Baseline Assessment Tool (Autumn Term), EExREC Beyond Baseline (Spring Term) and EExREC Supporting Transition to Year 1 (Summer Term). Used individually or as a complete suite, they provide a highly principled assessment process that is consistent, developmentally appropriate, and informed from Reception Baseline to entering Key Stage 1.
Grounded in child development and professional knowledge, each tool supports assessment that is manageable, meaningful and genuinely impactful. They strengthen professional dialogue, inform curriculum and provision, and ensure every child’s strengths, needs, progress and attainment are clearly understood.
If you are looking for a robust and useful Reception Baseline Assessment process, reviewing mid-year development or securing a confident transition into Year 1, EExREC provides clarity, continuity and confidence across the year.

EExREC Baseline Assessment
Autumn Term
Build a rich, meaningful picture of every child from the very start of Reception.
The EExREC Baseline Assessment Tool complements the statutory Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA), capturing the vital information that the RBA cannot and providing an on entry holistic understanding of each child’s development, well-being and learning dispositions.
Rooted in child development and practitioner knowledge, the tool supports staff to identify strengths, needs and next steps, while shaping curriculum priorities and provision.
Practical and manageable, it allows teachers to maintain a focus on relationships and settling-in without compromising on insight. What sets it apart in particular is the informative picture you’ll get about each child’s developmental levels of attainment.
Complete with a detailed handbook, recorded webinar and exemplification materials, it strengthens professional dialogue and ensures assessment has genuine impact.
EExREC Beyond Baseline
Spring Term
Continue the journey with a principled mid-year review of children’s learning and development.
Designed for use at the end of February, EExREC Beyond Baseline helps you build a clear, accurate picture of learning since starting points, whilst maintaining a lens on developmental attainment.
This tool supports teachers to identify which children need what support and why, while reviewing Well-being, Involvement and the Characteristics of Effective Learning alongside EYFS curriculum knowledge and skills.
It informs targeted teaching and sharper intervention, strengthening professional conversations across the team, and will help to ensure every child is as well placed as possible by the end of their Reception year.
With comprehensive guidance, training and exemplification included, Beyond Baseline ensures assessment remains meaningful, manageable and focused on improving outcomes for every child.
EExREC Supporting Transition to Year 1
Summer Term
Secure a confident and informed transition from Reception into Key Stage 1.
EExREC Supporting Transition to Year 1 captures a holistic end-of-year picture, drawing together attainment, developmental stages, strengths and next steps.
Designed for use in late June or early July, it complements the EYFS Profile and provides valuable insight for Year 1 teachers and school leaders.
The tool supports professional dialogue between phases, helping schools reflect on progress from Reception start points and consider implications for curriculum and provision in KS1.
Underpinned by principled assessment practice and practitioner knowledge, it ensures each child’s unique journey is understood and valued.
The Complete EExREC Suite
Autumn to Summer
An integrated, progressive assessment journey across the entire Reception year.
The full EExREC Suite brings together Baseline, Beyond Baseline and Supporting Transition to Year 1, providing a consistent, developmentally informed approach from Reception entry to KS1.
Together, the tools enable schools to understand development from Reception Baseline starting points, review mid-year development, and secure a meaningful end-of-year transition.
The shared language, structure and principles support robust moderation, professional dialogue and strategic thinking for teaching, learning, curriculum and provision.
With detailed guidance, training and exemplifications included throughout, the suite ensures assessment is holistic, manageable and impactful, strengthening practice and improving outcomes at every stage of the year.
