Getting it right from the start is crucial for every child and it is critical that school leaders have a secure knowledge of pupil outcomes and the quality of provision in the EYFS. This session will support strategic planning and confident evaluation of the EYFS as delegates consider how to confidently observe learning in the early years and explore resources to support with monitoring of practice and provision.

The Characteristics of Effective Learning are fundamental as they focus on how children learn rather than what they learn. Research has shown that it is these skills that make a difference to children’s long term outcomes and to their ability to become happy, resourceful and resilient adults. With a focus on developing the role of the adult inimplementing the Characteristics of Effective Learning, this session will start to get practitioners to consider the different ways children learn and reflect this in how we plan, teach, organise our learning environment and support individual children and groups of children
