Nurturing Mathematical Thinking Through Exploration and Investigation

Children’s mathematical development in the early years is dependent on opportunities to explore ideas, develop language and solve real-life problems. Helping children to think about what if, how and why is critical to their emerging thinking skills and intelligence. In this way, children’s natural desire to find out about, and make sense of, their world is the perfect starting point for nurturing and challenging mathematical concepts such as those involving number, shape, space and measures. On this course we will explore, in depth, key ways to promote mathematical thinking through meaningful, engaging, and well- planned experiences both inside and outdoors.
