What inspires young children to write and what are the key skills they need to develop to support this? Guiding children’s mark making towards writing is a complex and skilful process. This exciting and in-depth two-day course will explore how to build on what young children find meaningful as a gateway to becoming a confident and competent writer. It will cover the developmental stages of writing as well as key elements of learning to write, both compositional and transcriptional. Practitioners will consider the range of experiences required to support these processes and their role as the adult in developing excited young writers. Across the two days there will be examples of inspirational practice from schools and settings Kym has worked with and delegates will be invited to complete a gap task.
This day will focus on the foundations for early writing for 3-5 year olds and the key skills children need to acquire.
This day will include an opportunity to reflect on learning from the gap task and explore how to help children progress with their writing. It will also include a focus on developmentally appropriate ways of assessing and evidencing children’s progress in writing
