This programme provides specialised CPD tailored to the needs of practitioners and leaders working in areas of disadvantage who face the challenges that supporting children and families in difficulty brings. You will find a series of one-day courses which offer time to reflect on practice and professional development to support key issues.  Focused on removing barriers to learning, the programme covers key areas of practice including how to work with parents, strategies that support disadvantaged learners, securing good provision for language and communication as well as exploring gender bias and boys’ learning needs.

Course description

All children are entitled to a high quality early years provision which helps them become the best learners they can be. We know that some children are vulnerable to underachievement because their social circumstances, their past experiences or their cultural group. Settings and schools have a key role to play in supporting children and their families to have high aspirations and to narrow the achievement gap.

This course will explore the benefits and challenges of monitoring language development and delay, the effective use of the EYFS pupil premium and creating a ‘learning without limits’ ethos in your school. It will include resources to help you monitor practice, evaluate provision and improve your partnership with partners.

School Readiness: Planning for & Ensuring Smooth Transitions into Reception & Into Year 1

Course description

Transition is not an event, but a process. Poor transitions cause stress for young children which can lead to anxiety, significantly impacting on their ongoing progress across all areas of learning and development. The transition from Nursery to Reception and then into Y1 continues to be a challenge and area of debate for many schools and for many children. In order to ensure a smooth transition and continuity in their learning it is vital to consider the unique needs of each child. The course will explore ways to make the best use of evidence that has been captured about children’s learning.
Throughout the day delegates will consider key principles for transition and practical ways to ensure this is as smooth and successful as possible; with opportunities to reflect on their current approach and consider a developmentally and age appropriate approach.
