Working Together with Parents & Families

Course description

If we are to truly celebrate the uniqueness of each child, it is critical that we acknowledge parents and carers as a child’s first and most enduring educators. Children arrive in schools and settings with a broad range of experiences, living in diverse home environments.  If we are to effectively support them in their learning journeys we need to do this in partnership with those who know them best.

Working with parents as partners in children’s early learning and development is central to the EYFS. It sets out clear principles and commitments to practice within the theme of Positive Relationships. These include the requirement for each child to have a key person who should work to form a warm, trusting and respectful relationship with that child and their family.  During this workshop we will consider some of the evidence that shows the difference working in partnership with parents makes and explore practical ways to successfully achieve this.
