Northern Centre Open Evening – 1st October
Inspiring Writing with Pop-up Books
We are delighted to welcome British pop-up book artist Paul Johnson to Early Excellence.
Paul Johnson has an international reputation for his pioneering work in developing literacy through the book arts. He is author of over fifteen titles including ‘A Book of One’s Own’, ‘Literacy Through the Book Arts’ and ‘Pictures and Words Together’. He is also a successful book artist with work in the collections of the Tate Gallery, London, the Cooper-Hewett Museum in New York, the National Gallery, the Library of Congress, Washington DC, and many US universities including UCLA, Berkeley, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Yale and Harvard.
During this practical session, you will learn how to make over ten different book forms using only paper and scissors. Each one is focused on a different writing genre and will inspire writing for all children (and adults) across EYFS and KS1. This is a fantastic introduction to how making books can raise writing standards!
The session will start at 4.30pm and run until 6.30pm. Please arrive from 4:00pm for refreshments and the Centre will remain open until 7:00pm for shopping and browsing the environments.
